Overview
Introduce children to basic engineering and mechanical principles with wheels and axles. This pack helps explain simple mechanisms, different types of wheels and axles, and their presence in everyday objects.
The kit contains over 590 components, including wheels of various diameters made from turned wood and cardboard. All wheels have a 4mm diameter hole and come with 300mm lengths of dowel. Plastic tubing is also provided for use as end stops and spacers.
In Key Stage 1 Design & Technology lessons, children use mechanisms like levers, sliders, wheels, and axles in their projects, helping them understand movement. For Key Stage 2, the focus is on mechanical systems such as gears, pulleys, cams, levers, and linkages, and this pack supports these learning objectives with practical materials.
