Numerals and symbols give concrete form to addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, supporting number recognition activity and hands-on maths activities.
At Key Stage 1, teachers can model addition and subtraction, including number bonds within 20. Children represent calculations, solve missing-number problems and explain how quantities change before recording related number sentences independently.
At Key Stage 2, children can use numerals and operation symbols for problems involving all four operations. The resources support sorting, recognition and discussion through number recognition games and multiplication teaching resources.
