• Developed by the Primary Science Teaching Trust (PSTT).

• Standing on the Shoulders of Giants links the work of 10 famous scientists to the work of contemporary scientists giving children an appreciation of how wider scientific understanding develops over time.

• Through practical investigations, based on the work of a historic figure, children are encouraged to generate their own questions to explore and develop further.

• The book outlines the learning objectives, resources required and a practical activity to carry out with the children. Extension activities, vocabulary and focus questions are also included. There is also an overview of opportunities for cross curricular links.

• Explore, Engage, Extend - includes 20 sets of highly engaging practical activities to support teachers with assessment for learning in Science. The activities generate rich assessment data, enabling the teacher to plan the topic in response to the children’s specific needs and to create new learning experiences. The topics included can be used across KS2, are transferable across year groups and can be adapted to the particular curriculum followed by the school. The activities are intended to be used at the start of a topic, but are equally valuable for providing a practical approach to learning at any stage of a topic
