Bird Box

Encourage wildlife into your school garden and observe birds in action using this nesting box.

Overview

  • Enhancing learning experiences by attracting wildlife to the school garden is beneficial. This bird box attracts small birds like blue, coal, and marsh tits with its shingle roof, silvered hole protector, and lapboard sides. Place it on a wall, tree, or fitting 1.5 to 2.5m above ground. Leave the box empty as birds will bring their nesting materials. Nesting occurs in April and May. Avoid disturbing the box during this period to prevent abandonment.

  • This bird box helps children develop observational skills. Activities include noting bird species, their activity times, and seasonal pattern changes.

  • If chicks hatch, children can observe feeding activity and discuss their life cycle. Clean the box from the bottom outside the breeding season to maintain a suitable environment.
