Dry Wipe Place Value Slider

A blank, unprinted version of our popular slider to help your teaching of place value, multiplication & division and fractions.

  • Left blank for ultimate versatility, the grids give the option of exploring whole numbers, decimals or a mixture of both. The dry-wipe blank grid (in either 4-space or 7-space format) stays in a fixed position.

  • Pupils can write and erase freely on the slider and demonstrate knowledge of number, x and ÷ and fractions. Also available in a larger, demonstration size for modelling activities to the whole class.

  • We recalled what a useful range of resources our place value sliders are; so we have updated them and made them even better value for money.

  • NUMBER AND PLACE VALUE:

  • Develop a deeper understanding of our number system. Our visual, tactile sliders can make the base ten number system easier for pupils to understand. Use with and without base ten materials to explain place value more clearly and introduce progression in resources.

  • Explain more clearly what happens to numbers as they cross multiples of 10, e.g. 99 to 100. Model how numbers change from single digits through to multiple digits and why this happens.

  • MULTIPLICATION AND DIVISION:

  • Solve the ‘you just add a zero’ dilemma.

  • A simple visual representation of what really happens when we ‘multiply and divide whole numbers and those involving decimals by 10, 100 and 1000’ (Yr 5)

  • FRACTIONS:

  • Show how place value knowledge can help us calculate

  • Find the effect of dividing a one or two digit number by 10 and 100, identifying the value of the digits. (Yr 4)
