Since receiving the Easi-Scope to use within my KS1 classroom I have used it many times from demonstrating the make-up of materials, to looking at body parts of ants! Due to the way that the product has been designed it is incredibly easy to plug in and use straight away. It has enhanced the visual aspect of teaching and learning allowing all children to further develop their scientific knowledge and understanding. It is very intuitive to children and colleagues and it allows all children to enrich their learning through the impact it has on the visual aspects of science. As well as it being easy to install on the computer it is also really beneficial in that the software that records the visual images is compatible with other software used on school computers (e.g. Windows Media Player).
Although the children have only been able to use the Easi-Scope in pairs on the computer, they are able to use it with independence and confidence after a brief demonstration. The innovative design means that children are able to develop evaluative skills in order to twist the top to find the best focus. This is also surprisingly easy for most children including those with SEN and issues with motor skills. Comparing it to similar products on the market it is easier to handle as it can be gripped in one hand and operated with the other. Also the down light and image capture tools allows children to produce images that they are pleased with. When working with children in KS1 it is often the case that children get frustrated with the images they create using digital-capture tools meaning that they do not achieve to their ability.
The extent that this resource has for use a across the school makes it a very cost-effective choice when looking to replace existing microscope technology. Not only is the price reasonable for schools, it is made more appealing due to it’s suitability for all age ranges and all parts of the school along with a laptop. This is particularly useful with the drive for the development of outside learning within many schools.
