A progressive and innovative spelling scheme for KS2 that comprehensively addresses the spelling content of the National Curriculum.
The scheme puts the spelling content into a wider context and is intended as a collection of resources that not only support spelling, but also consolidate grammar and punctuation, develop vocabulary and encourage a genuine love of language.
Children work alongside ‘spelling partners’ and start each spelling unit with an introductory activity. This is then consolidated by short activities in the middle of the unit , with an assessment activity to conclude the unit. Pupils have plenty of opportunities to generate word lists together during each unit of words. They support each other when applying their learning through regular ‘dictation’ games at the end of each unit.
The scheme includes a teacher’s guide with support for each spelling unit, two levels of pupil booklet for each term (printable from the CD ROM), vocabulary cards designed to be used as a ‘word wall’, spelling fans and dictation sentence cards. However, the scheme is designed for teachers to approach the resource flexibly, colour it with their own creativity and ensure that the children’s learning evolves over the course of each week or unit, and beyond, to genuinely meet the needs of their children.
