• Children will be fascinated when they discover that currency has not always been coins, notes and cards that they are familiar with today!

• The earliest form of 'currency' was goods so bartering was the preferred method, this included grains, cattle, fabric etc. When the earliest civilisations became more efficient, they started trading with familiar items. Cocoa for Maya, cowrie shells in Shang China, Manilla in Benin to the more familiar coinage of today, Greek and Roman coin.
