These burgundy book band books are for KS2 children working at lower level 5 of the national curriculum.

• This book band set contains fiction titles, chosen by experts to cover a variety of topics to engage children and encourage them on their reading journey.

• Children reading at Burgundy book band level will clearly understand a story and be able to draw on specific detail to give persuasive answers to questions, selecting relevant sentences, phrases and information to justify their answers and opinions. They will also be able to identify key features, themes and characters across a range of appropriate texts and explain implied meanings, making reference to the text. Children at this level will use note-making effectively to summarise the main points in a text. They will also will be able to synthesise information from different places in a text. They are beginning to recognise how layers of meaning allow for the build-up of humour or tension and are able to discuss how the author has achieved the effects.
