How do you decide if a person or event in history is important, or significant? And why is one thing more important than another? This exercise is designed to help your pupils decide what, in their opinion, was the Greatest Invention of the Twentieth Century.
One of the greatest difficulties in deciding whether an event is important or not is knowing enough about all the events to be able to decide which is, and which isn't, important. The beauty of using inventions as a topic is that most pupils in Key Stage 2 will know about them, will use many of them, and therefore will be able to discuss 'importance' from a basis of knowledge rather than ignorance.
