These wordless books tell a story through pictures alone. They help children to develop speaking and listening skills through creating and telling stories.

At lilac book band stage, children are just beginning to discover the excitement of books and although they don't have any words,
they are really important as an introduction to reading. A great way to encourage children is to begin by introducing the structure of a book, eg. looking at the pages in order and talking about the left hand page and what is happening, before the right hand page. You can also support by talking about what is happening on each page and not just what they observe in the pictures. Ask the child to tell you who or what the book is about.
